PORT NEEDLE
PORT NEEDLE
Characteristics of port needles
What makes a port needle special is that its design differs significantly from ordinary needles, Key features include:
1. Needletip bent at 90": This isthe defining feature. The 90? bend allows the shaft to lieflat against the skin afterthetip has entered the port'shorizontal septum, minimizing intra-port movement or dislodgement and ensuring stable, secure infusion.
2 Winged (butterfly) hub;Soft plastic "wings" on each side of the needle function like a butterfly' s wings. They provide an easygrip duringinsertionand a broad surface fortaping, allowing the needle to be securely anchored to the skin and preventing accidental dislodgement.
3. Non-coring(deflected) tip: The term "non-coring" comes from thisfeature. Instead of a conventional beveled cutting edge, thetip.is shaped likea pencil point or a deflected (back-cut) bevel.
Key benefit: this design preventsthe needle from coring out silicone fragments each time itpierces the port' sseptum, eliminating the "rubber-coring" effect
